Telecommunications, Information Market and Exploitation of Research works on the development of the European
Information Highway.
- National Science Foundation:
provides support and grants for research in networking and communications.
The relevant group is the Networking and Communications Research and Infrastructure (NCRI) Division
in the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE).
- Federal Networking Council (FNC):
FNC membership consists of representatives from 17 US Federal
agencies (e.g., NASA, National Science Foundation,
Dept. of Education, Department of Commerce's NTIA)
whose programs utilize interconnected Internet networks. The Federal Networking Council's Advisory Committee has
made recommendations on transition issues for the Internet including
Resolution - New Internet Paradigm
from May 23, 1995 and more specifically Resolution - Domain Name Service
at their recent meeting on October 21-22, 1996 (the draft minutes
of the meeting can be found here).
- The Federal Networking Council (FNC) is chartered by National Science and Technology Council's NSTC Committee on Information and Communications (CIC).
- Mike St. John, ARPA/FNC, presented a paper at Internet Names,
Numbers, and Beyond: Issues in the Coordination, Privatization and Internationalization of the Internet held November 20, 1995 in
Washington, D.C. on FNC's Role in the DNS Issues.
- Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
- National Telecommunications & Information Administration (NTIA)
- Working Group on Intellectual Property, Interoperability, and Standard
of the U.S. Advisory Committee on International Communications and Information Policy advises the US State Department on issues
such as Domain Naming, Copyrights and Intellectual Property
